Week 8: October 28 - 30

You will be in new groups starting from this week. Your groupmates are in the Drive. Please sit in your new group when you come to class. We will also be finishing the debates this week. Anyone who hasn't done the debate will do it with me as your counterparty.

As I mentioned in class, I've decided to cancel the midterm. I don't think we have covered enough material to hold a midterm, and I don't really want to spend two weeks testing, so the course grading will now be Debate (33%), Video project (33%), and Final (33%). Don't worry if you didn't do so well on the debate you still have the chance to pass the class.

The video project will be due at the start of class [1 minute before class starts] in Week 13 [December 2 - 4]. This gives you lots of time to do it. The outline can be found in the Drive.

The Drive also contains this week's articles. Please read them before class.

Please check back as the various documents will be uploaded to the Drive on Friday.

Week 7: October 21 - 23

We will be finishing the debates, so everyone who hasn't yet done it be ready. If there is any extra time we can finish the Week 5 video.

Just some pointers: if I see you reading off of a phone you lose 10 points, also speaking less than 2:45 will also incur a penalty.

I would also try not to memorize the whole thing. Just memorize the key points and use your English to describe them. I'd also use personal stories, which don't have to be memorized.

If you have any questions regarding the debate please email ASAP.

Week 6: October 14 - 16

We will be holding the debates this week and next, so please be prepared. If I call your name and all the members of both groups are present, you can delay for a week at the cost of -10% for everyone. If one or more persons are absent, you don't lose marks, but you will have to debate in Week 7 regardless of whether all 4 members are present.

You don't need to move the chairs this week.

You only have to talk for 3 minutes [you will be timed] and you need to do it without any notes.

If you have any questions, email me at colingullberg@gmail.com

If we have extra time, we will do the video from last week.

Week 5 - October 7 - 9

I have emailed everyone regarding their partner/debate topic. Some of these emails were returned to me [possibly due to a spelling mistake]. If you did not receive a partner/topic, please email me with your day & class time and I'll reply.
